Lynnwood Unit Auditions!

Fishnet Theatre is very pleased to announce auditions for the Lynnwood Unit on June 11th and 12th at Northlake Christian Church (19029 North Rd, Bothell, WA 98012). They will take place both days from 7-9:00 p.m. The Lynnwood Unit of Fishnet’s next tour will be rehearsing mid June through August twice a week (days to be determined). The Lynnwood Unit tour begins in September and runs each Sunday until Thanksgiving, plus one weeknight or Saturday performance each month, for a total of about 18-20 performances.

“Happenstance Hotel” is a hilarious morsel of humor that interlaces the events at a once-classy hotel with the hapless arrival of four individuals. Laughter is inevitable as the two couples – each on vacation – gets more than either bargained for, and much more than they could have possibly imagined. In the process, the warmth of their relationships grows as they develop a new appreciation for their family, their marriage, and their relationship with the Lord.

Cast of Characters
Karen - 40-50 year old wife of Kevin. She is a Christian and has been married to Kevin for years, but it has become comfortable and routine. She doesn’t display any significant effort toward their relationship. She also has a contentious relationship with her daughter Jessica. She is having trouble understanding that Jess is a woman and capable of making wise decisions.
Kevin - At 40-50 years of age, Kevin is also a Christian and would like to be the leader of his home, but his wife Karen overshadows him. Although he is not subservient to her – he simply is resigned to constantly bickering with her. He gives her no slack, and is ready to rub the salt into wounds as opportunities present themselves. He knows his marriage is nothing special and he would like to strengthen it, but isn’t aware how to go about it.
Clark - 30-40 year old man, Clark is the clerk at the hotel. He is simply an outsider watching in amazement the action that is in the lobby. He is befuddled by the commotion, and he can clearly see the poor choices that the couples are making towards each other. He does not know Christ and is entertained by watching these imperfect witnesses.
Jessica - About 22 years old, Jessica is newly married to Josh– and on their honeymoon. After stresses of the upcoming wedding and her mother, they elected to elope. She is feeling guilty about that and she isn’t yet doing well sharing with her new husband. She is still trying to solve problems on her own and not trusting either Josh or the Lord.
Josh - 22 years old, he is from out of state and not familiar with Jessica’s family. He trusts the Lord, but is naïve about the interpersonal relationships that exist in her family. He wants to be a good husband, but really has no idea how to do that. He is a willing ear for Kevin, and for his age is fairly mature in his faith.
Barney - 50-70 years old. This could be played by a woman – change the name to Bernadette. Throughout the play, we are not quite sure if he is a bellhop or a homeless guy. He is very slow in speech and movement. He spends most of the time laying on the couch, or drinking the coffee. But once he starts asking questions, it becomes apparent that he has a lot more wisdom than he has been letting on.

Fishnet Needs You!

As you may or may not know, Fishnet Theatre is drastically altering our tour format beginning with the 2010-2011 season. We will be initiating a “Unit Tour” format that allows several casts and crews to tour within their geographical areas with a common set, trailer, and technical gear.

For this to work, Fishnet needs a large increase in personnel – from actors to directors, and from stage managers to trailer drivers. We need more personnel. More information concerning the tour format can be found here.

What can you do??
There will be five audition dates in the next year, one for each unit. Most of the dates are yet to be determined. Check back here for more info. The Lynnwood Unit's auditions will be the week of June 6th. Arlington's auditions will be in September. Remember, each unit will only be touring for 2-3 months for around 10-15 performances. You can sign up for one, two, or any number of units!

New Board Members!

Fishnet Theatre is led by a group of dedicated individuals who do much of the work and get little of the credit. Fishnet is pleased to announce two additions to the Board of Directors: Timothy Hisey and Lenore Leckvold!
Timothy has served as an Associate Board member and has been elected to the Executive Board. Lenore has toured with Fishnet for several years and has accepted a 1 year position as an Associate Board member.
